Dealing with Dog Aggression

These three dogs had aggression issues towards other dogs. Buying a rescue dog means you also inherit whatever trauma they have experienced in their past. Often, trauma comes out as aggression because of the dog’s stress and fear in a particular environment or setting. Using appropriately timed markers and flooding the dog with what causes them stress or fear, can actually begin the process of fixing the problem. Watching these three dogs be this close to each other and not fight over food or the stress of being around each other is a huge step in the right direction.

Dog Aggression Advice

American Bulldog “Poppa” has some aggression issues with big dogs. We used retired K9 Blaze to start working on these issues. We made huge improvements during this session and look forward to Poppa continuing to improve.

A couple of points to understand when dealing with aggression issues...

If the dog is an adult and has been aggressive for a long time, we recommend sending the dog away to be trained and we generally won’t recommend home visits.
If the dog is still a puppy, we usually can provide some exercises to work on and techniques to apply to correct the behavior.
One of the dogs during the training session must be known to the trainers and neutral around other dogs.
The equipment you are using is extremely important. Throw your harness away! You need an effective correction collar and a strong leash when applying corrections. For Poppa, we are using a slip collar and custom leather leash made by Aeternum Dog Leads.
Nothing is fixed by one session, it is up to the owner to understand the techniques and apply them after the training session is over.
